Polygamous species. Females incubate eggs in the mouth for 15 to 20 days.
Victoria, sandy biotopes. Length – up to 13 cm. the body is greyish-green, with 8-10 dark transverse bands. Head silvery, shiny. Dorsal fin blue, in the soft part with red dots, strokes and edging. The anal fin is red in front, blue behind, with 3-4 yellow in a black ringlet (spots). The caudal fin is red at the edges.
